Hormone Assist ESTROGEN METHYLATION, DETOXIFICATION & METABOLISM Where Do Estrogens Come From? Estrogen is a hormone which is made from cholesterol. Typically, estrogen promotes positive effects, supporting tissue growth and female development. This very important hormone has a limited half-life in the metabolism and after completion of its vital function, estrogen must be removed. The body has a specialized detoxification system for the removal of expired metabolites which includes Phase I and II detoxification reactions. The methylation of estrogen changes it to an excretable product which is no longer active as a hormone. This crucial methylation step is however often hampered by depletion of essential cofactors and substrates.
