INJECTABLES

At Longiva Healthy Ageing Institute our Injectable Medical Aesthetic services include:

BOTOX® OR DYSPORT® TREATMENT

Botulinum toxin (Sometimes referred to as Botox® which is the best known brand name) is a natural purified bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It relaxes the muscles causing wrinkles, thereby creating a smooth, rejuvenated, rested and younger appearance. When injected into a muscle, it temporarily blocks the chemical signals in the little nerves that cause muscle contraction. The first signs of ageing often appear as wrinkles around our eyes, forehead, cheeks and lips.

While wrinkles are a normal defining feature of the human face, they can sometimes falsely portray a tired or more aged appearance. Botulinum toxin is extracted from the bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. For years before its aesthetic use, and still today, it has been used as a nonsurgical treatment for uncontrollable facial spasms, spasticity and squint disorders of the eye.

It is most commonly used for the treatment of the classic frown lines, forehead and laugh lines (crow’s feet). Other uses include brow remodelling, peri-oral lines, chin relaxation, lifting of oral angles, softening of neck bands, the so called “Nefertiti contour lift”.

Axillary sweating can also be treated very successfully with this product (lasts up to 18 months). The treatment of overactive jaw muscles which causes clenching / grinding (Bruxism) can also be treated to relax the muscle and limit contraction.

During the procedure of Botulinum Toxin injection, no local anaesthetics is needed as the procedure is almost painless. A very tiny needle is used to ensure this with no downtime and one can go back to work directly after the procedure.

FILLERS FOR VOLUME RESTORATION

Filler injections into the dermis of the skin are fantastically versatile, as they can create volume and shape, remove wrinkles, soften lines and improve the appearance of acne scars.

As the skin ages, it gradually loses elasticity, some of its collagen and fat deposits. The result of this loss of support and substructure causes our skin to become thinner, it starts sagging and it becomes more wrinkled and lined. It is at this stage that our faces start showing ageing.

With Filler injections one can restore the skin to its former youthful appearance. Fillers come in different thicknesses, and in general, the thicker the product, the deeper it is placed into the dermis to help create volume, plump out fine to deep lines and wrinkles. The most popular Dermal Fillers manufactured are made from Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural, inert component of the body and constitute the building blocks of collagen. Hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times its own weight in water and therefore helps to restore volume to the treated area.

Depending on the area injected, the type of filler used, and the patient’s pain threshold, patients may find the procedure relatively painless to mildly uncomfortable. For superficial treatment of lines and wrinkles, an anaesthetic cream is sometimes applied to the area 20 minutes or so prior to injection. This helps to numb the area to be treated and reduces sensation when the needle is inserted into the skin. Before injections in the lips, a dental or lip block may be used, where a small amount of lignocaine (an anaesthetic like the ones used by dentists) is injected into the lip area to numb them prior to treatment. Normal activity may be resumed immediately, however, there might be mild swelling and sometimes bruising at the injection site. Swelling should resolve within two days and bruising may take up to one week to diminish. Concealer can help to cover any temporary imperfections.

REDERMALISATION WITH HYALURONIC ACID®

Hyaluronic Acid is a compound which occurs naturally in the skin and has remarkable properties – particularly in the face, neck and breast area where the first signs of ageing are seen. Hyaluronic Acid smooths out fine lines / wrinkles and stimulates rejuvenation of skin cells.

Hyaluronic acid retains natural moisture in the skin by forming a continuous thin membrane. It also helps reduce water evaporation from the skin’s surface, thereby increasing the amount of free water in the stratum corneum. The membrane formed contributes to prolonged action of biologically active substances and prevents external toxins from the atmosphere having any effects on the skin’s surface.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY

Platelet rich plasma is a 100% natural method that uses the patient’s own blood components to stimulate the renewal of damaged tissue in areas of the face, neck, décolleté, hands and body. Extracted blood platelets that contain proteins, nutrients, and a variety of growth factors are injected in to the site of concern. When growth factors are activated by injection, repair of damaged tissue begins, generating collagen and hyaluronic production. PRP enhances the natural appearance of the skin and restores suppleness, volume and youthfulness in the treated area. PRP have great efficacy in revitalizing skin and eliminating wrinkles, sagging and dark circles. PRP is also effective in healing the skin where damage occur by acne, injuries and stretch marks.

PRP is a safe healing process that has been studied and applied to restore many areas of concern. This treatment accelerates the rejuvenating properties of the body, eliminating the need for cosmetic surgery. PRP is also biocompatible with the human body, requiring little or no recovery time. This method is extremely safe, with no risk of allergic reaction because your own blood produces the PRP gel. Furthermore, concentrated quantities of white blood cells (the body’s defenders against infection) are also a part of the plasma being created into a mask the skin absorbs at the end of the treatments. This, too, promotes the skin’s restoration. Thus, infection is less likely to occur.

PRP is a simple four-step process:

  1. It begins with the collection of your blood. About 30 ml is collected.
  2. The blood is then put into a machine called a centrifuge, which separates the three components of blood.
  3. Once the components are separated, the platelet-rich plasma is injected into desired area. From collection of blood to injections takes about 45 – 60 minutes.
  4. At this point, then your plasma is created as a gel that is then used as a mask to be absorbed by the skin to assist in the restoration process.
MESOTHERAPY

Mesotherapy is the practice of using microinjections of conventional approved medications and/or vitamins into the mesoderm, or middle layer of skin where the adipose tissue (fat) is located to deliver healing or corrective treatment to a specific area of the body.

The technique was created by Dr. M. Pistor in France in 1952, and the procedure was recognized by the French National Academy of Medicine in 1986.

The idea is that you can get these active substances to the site requiring treatment by directly injecting them there. The actual preparation injected into the mesoderm (or surface layer of the skin) during Mesotherapy depends upon the problem being treated. In general, the substances used can include: a local anaesthetic, and products that may reduce inflammation and treat veins, muscle relaxants, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, plant extracts, hormones, and hormone blockers; to name but a few.

Mesotherapy is a popular treatment for skin rejuvenation and therefore mesotherapy is used for the treatment of ageing skin, to replace minerals, vitamins and amino acids.

Another newer procedure is to boost levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin. It is yet another important procedure that helps to maintain firmness and texture of the skin and has very efficient cosmetic applications, primaries are: Cellulite, Hair loss, and Skin aging.

During the procedure of a Mesotherapy treatment, multiple injections using a very fine needle will be used. Each treatment takes about ten to twenty minutes and is generally not painful. If you find it uncomfortable, a topical anaesthetic can be applied prior to treatment.

DERMAL THREADING

Inserting threads underneath the skin surface is a minimally invasive technique that involves the use of PDO, polydioxanone, sutures (wires) that are placed via a long needle into layer deep to the the skin. The aim is to lift and tighten sagging tissue in the mid and lower face. It is a non-surgical alternative to a traditional facelift and is growing in popularity

It provides a lifting of and smoothing effect in the appearance of the skin . Threads come in various lengths, thickness and designs give enabling me to offer a wide range of treatment options. The PDO threads are made of a safe substance that dissolve in a natural manner over a course of months, whilst synthesizing new collagen production in the treated area. This treatment allows the skin to present smooth and tight, resulting in fewer wrinkles thus improving the skin’s overall texture and youthfulness.

The PDO threading treatment is well tolerated by patients, and there is no need for anaesthesia.

What I use vary often in my Aesthetic practice to dramatically lift and tighten skin and tissue in the face and necks are APTOS thread.

An APTOS thread lift is a way to lift sagging tissue and tighten loose skin without undergoing an invasive surgical procedure. … They can also smooth lines around the mouth and tighten sagging skin under the lower jaw, lift and rejuvenate various parts of the body.

APTOS threads are made of both non-absorbable (polypropylene) and absorbable (poly-L-lactic acid + caprolactone) material. Polypropylene threads are used in surgery for more than 50 years. Polylactic threads are composed of fully absorbable, non-allergic material used in medicine for many years. The degree of lifting and duration of the effect outstrips the PDO thread by far

Aptos Threads provide double action: lifting and rejuvenation.

Aptos Threads have specially designed barbs that provide soft grip on surrounding tissues. As absorbable threads dissolve naturally, the skin starts to produce more collagen which gives a longer-lasting result. Over time they improve skin tone, texture, colour and hydration.

Ideal candidates for thread lifts include people with minimal signs of ageing who need just a small lift. Usually, these are women and men between 30 and 55.

Right candidates are those patients who have

  • prominence of the jaw
  • a relaxed / sagging mid-facial appearance
  • slight bags under the eyes or on the neck
  • candidates include those who have had some relapse from a previous procedure such as a facelift or neck lift

APTOS can be used to treat various parts of the face and body:

  • Contours of the face
  • Jaw line
  • Cheeks and mid face area
  • Eyebrows
  • Neck
